He then shared his passion for throwing, coaching at Virginia Tech, Arizona State, and Oregon State for a total of 24 years. His storied coaching career included developing 24 Individual NCAA Champions, 83 First Team All-Americans and was a part of 4 NCAA Team Championships. At the international level, he has coached 4 throwers to represent the US at the World Championships.

Although building and installing cages keeps David busy, he also enjoys coaching professionally to feed his love for track and field.

Lance Deal

Lance Deal is a decorated throws champion as an All American discus thrower, a world record holder in the 35# weight, and a former American World record holder in the hammer. Deal participated in 4 World Championships and is a four time Olympian earning a silver medal in 1996 in the hammer. Deal was inducted into the U.S. Track and Field Hall of Fame in December of 2014.

Following his professional career, Deal was a throws coach at the University of Oregon and the Director of Track and Field Venues. For the 2016 Olympic Trials at Hayward Field, a goal was set to throw hammer on the infield. This challenge required the hammer cage to be installed and removed within a 2 day window. Deal accepted the challenge and with his ingenuity, the Big Deal Hammer Cage was born. The aesthetics, design, and efficiency to install have been highly sought after all over the US. As Deal built and installed future cages, he continued to adjust the design and the Big Deal Hammer Cage has evolved into one of the top hammer cages in the world.
